Montclair State University
HISTORY
The Alpha Lambda Chapter of Sigma Lambda Upsilon/Señoritas Latinas Unidas Sorority, Inc. was established at Montclair State University in the Spring of 2009 by four passionate and dedicated young women: Hermana Yadhira Checo, Hermana Ramona Batista, Hermana Margarita Rivas and Hermana Katherine Batista.
The journey began in 2005 with the establishment of the official interest group at Montclair State University. Through many failed interest groups and obstacles with administration, the Hermanas and chapter founders worked diligently to overcome all the hardships that came with the journey. Collectively, they were committed to the firm belief that the presence of Sigma Lambda Upsilon would benefit this campus by empowering and inspiring young women to find their voices while also providing women the opportunity to take part in a bond that would last Hasta La Muerte.
After an arduous process the Alpha Lambda Chapter of Sigma Lambda Upsilon/Señoritas Latinas Unidas Sorority Inc. was established on April 12, 2009.
As a recently established chapter Alpha Lambda has already impacted the campus community and established a sense of professionalism and work ethic. They have successfully hosted numerous events and built relationships with other organizations through co sponsorships.
