Sigma Lambda Upsilon

Upsilon Chapter

University of Maryland-College Park

HISTORY

The Upsilon Chapter was founded in the Spring of 2000 by four women who were inspired both by the sisterhood expressed through the Hermanas as well as their commitment to the community. While looking into this organization and many others, they noticed that although some chapters were few in number, they achieved a great deal and made a huge impact on their campuses. This determination and dedication, along with the tight bond that existed between Hermanas, lead women at the University of Maryland, College Park, to persue membership into Sigma Lambda Upsilon/ SeƱoritas Latinas Unidas Sorority, Inc. Those women were: Miriam Cabezas, Claudia Ramirez, Laurie Price and Joanne Rodriguez.

Since the founding of Upsilon Chapter, these four women have also acheived a great deal in terms of educating and providing service for the community.  Just as importantly, the women of Upsilon Chapter have formed a very tight bond, unexpressable in words or through a website, but lived everyday. Our sisterhood is open to all women who share the desire to uplift the community and who are also willing to open their hearts to genuine sisterhood.

The Upsilon Chapter at University of Maryland-College Park currently has no active undergraduate Hermanas. For questions about reviving the Chapter or establishing an interest group, please complete the following information request form.
